Biography
Shirley A. Matthews, 79, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Fair View Nursing Home.
She was born September 7, 1932, in Olathe, KS, a daughter of the late Geraldine (Emerson) and Willard Swift. In July, 1949, she married Glenn B. Figge, Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union were born four children, Glenda, Glenn, Jr., Debbie and Darla. In 1984, she married Larry Matthews, who preceded her in death.
She was a stay at home mom while her children were young. Later in life, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Bothwell Hospital and an assistant in Dr. Foster’s office. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She is survived by four children, Glenda (John) Bulcock, of Carl Junction, Glenn B. Figge, Jr., of Sedalia, Debbie J. (Randy) Evans, of Jefferson City, and Darla G. (Fred) Berg, of Platte City; a sister, Marita McLeister, of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother Robert Swift.
Graveside services will be 2 pm, Monday, May 14, 2012, at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Duane Duchesne officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Foundation Cancer Center in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
