Arthur John Reque, 58, passed away Monday, May 7 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, MO.
Art was born on January 3, 1954 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of Eleanor Ostern Reque and John Sievert Reque. Art moved to Spring Grove, MN in 1959 and then to Sedalia, MO in 1964. He attended Smith-Cotton High School where he began his musical endeavors in the band. He was also involved in the French Club and Letterman’s Club, graduating in 1972. Afterwards Art moved to Warrensburg, MO and attended Central Missouri State University.
In the summer of 1980 Art was married to Janice Herrick and three years later began having their three children. Art’s occupations over the next several years included working for Farm and Home, Unitog, Swisher and Gardner Denver. During this time Art continued embracing his love for music by playing the drums with Diamond Jim, Mr. Smith and The Hummin’ Birds. He was also involved in every aspect of his children’s lives by coaching softball, baseball and basketball; along with his involvement with the Girl Scouts and leadership of Boy Scouts Troop 400.
Art was due to be married in June 2012 to his loving fiancé Martha Healey where they were planning to begin their life together in Sedalia.
Art is survived by three children, Jonathan Reque of Warrensburg, MO, Skye Reque-Hostetler and husband Steven Hostetler of Columbia, MO and Emily Reque of Columbia, MO. He is also survived by his fiancé Martha Healey of Mabank, TX and her three children, Paige Bezdek and family of San Diego, CA, Sherman Healey and family of Henderson, TX, and Chet Healey of Henderson, TX; his five siblings Carl Reque and family of Raymore, MO, Donna DiPaolo and family of Lincoln, NE, Debi Lempka and family of Tecumseh, NE, Tom Reque and family of Cole Camp, MO and Cyndi Engelken and family of Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family please join us in the celebration of Art’s life on Saturday May 12th at 1 pm at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia, MO. Food and fun will follow at the Best Western in Sedalia. A visitation will be held on Friday May 11th from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society and Boy Scout Troop 400 of Warrensburg, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
