Biography
LaVerne B. Meyer, 85, of Sedalia, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at her home.
She was born June 28, 1926, in Mora, a daughter of George and Caroline (Ziems) Zimmerschied. On August 11, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sweet Springs, she was united in marriage to Clyde R. Muller, who died October 28, 1984. On April 25, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield, she and John Meyer were united in marriage by the Rev. William R. Marler. John survives of the home.
LaVerne was raised and educated in Corder and Sweet Springs. She was a 1944 graduate of Sweet Springs High School. She and her first husband, Clyde, made their home in Springfield where she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and worked as a medical assistant/receptionist. After she and John were married, they moved to Sedalia in 2004 and joined Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, crappie fishing with John on Truman Lake and gardening.
In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by a sister, Ethel Lange, and her husband, Verlon, of SC; three half brothers, Larry Zimmerschied, and his wife, Kelly, of Sweet Springs, Dennis Zimmerschied, and his wife, Ruby, of Blackburn, and Roger Zimmerschied, and his wife, Connie, of LaMonte; a brother in-law, James Meyer, of Sweet Springs; a sister in-law, Velma Zimmerschied, of Higginsville; four step-children, David Meyer, and his wife, Sharon, Curtis Meyer, and his wife, Joyce, Nancy Watkins, and her husband, J.R., and Douglas Meyer, all of Independence; many nieces, nephews and beloved family.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harland Zimmerschied, who died at nine years old, and Harold Zimmerschied; a sister, Ruth Meyer, and her step-mother, Norma (Gieschen) Zimmerschied.
Funeral service will be 11 am, Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Kellogg and Rev. Andrew Tessone officiating. Pallbearers will be Melvin Garrett, Gene Perkens, Steven Shanholtzer, Rodney Meyer, Ron Meyer and Steve Nichols. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Sweet Springs.
Visitation will be 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
