Orville F. Jennings

February 6, 1922 - April 22, 2012

Orville F. Jennings, 90, of Sedalia, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, where he spent the last year of his life.

He was born February 6, 1922, in Bowring, OK, a son of the late John F. and Mary A. (York) Jennings. On August 21, 1945, in Kansas City, MO, he married Gertrude E. Davis, who died November 18, 1984. On February 15, 1986, in Sedalia, he married Dorothy Wadleigh Wissman, who survives of the home.

He served his country honorably from 1942-1945 in the Army Signal Corp during World War II in New Caledonia in the Pacific. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher, and also worked in the shipping department at Adco, Inc. for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a life member of VFW Post 2591. He loved to dance and had a great sense of humor.

He is also survived by three sons, Gail F. Jennings, of Green Ridge, Richard Wissman, of Springfield and James Wissman, of Blue Springs; three daughters, Anita McPherson, of Blue Springs, Pamela Smethers, of Green Ridge and Sharon Lewis, of Gladstone; two brothers, Marvin Jennings, of Joplin and Leroy Jennings, of Neosho; four sisters, Eula Pendergraft, of Neosho, Faye Hands, of Olive Hill, TN, Doris Hoodenpyle, of Big Cabin, OK, and Barbara Smith, of Venita, OK; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Curtis and Lloyd Jennings; and two sisters, Agnes Lawson and Gertrude Smith.

Funeral service will be 10 am, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Corbett Martin officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny McPherson, Luke Jennings, Jason Bright, Jason Welch, Mark Abney, Tim Warner, Jeff Wissman, Jason Wissman and Luke Gardner. Burial will follow in Highland Sacred Gardens with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2591.

Visitation will be 7 pm-8:30 pm, Tuesday, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home or Crossroads Hospice in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
