Charles Louis Rages, 93, of Sedalia, died Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Fair View Nursing Home.
He was born March 16, 1917 in Clifton City, MO, the son of Charles L. Rages, Sr. and Gertrude (Fischer) Rages. He was the second of six children, and the brother of five sisters.
He graduated from Hughesville High School in 1935. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army, serving for three years with the Signal Corps in North Africa and Europe, and earning a Bronze Star. After the end of World War II, he enlisted for an additional three years with the U.S. Air Force before leaving military service, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1948, he married Katherine Virginia Green. They had two children: Kathy Ann Rages, who now lives in the state of California, and David Charles Rages, who lives in Imperial, MO with his family. After leaving the Air Force, Charles Rages worked for 30 years as a civil servant at Whiteman AFB. Following his retirement, he pursued his other interests in flying as a private pilot, square dancing, round dancing, ragtime and the Scott Joplin Festival, and watching his granddaughters grow to adulthood.
He is survived by his two children; three of his sisters, Mildred Rages, Lillian Rages Barrick, and Margaret Rages Boyd; his two granddaughters, Stacy Hill Kettler and Meredith Rages; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steven Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens with full military honors by VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
