Life Legacy
Nadine (Oehrke) Hopkins, age 88, of Sedalia, died Friday, August 07, 2009 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born March 17, 1921, in Florence, the daughter of Oscar and August (Bremer) Oehrke. In 1941, she married Donald Blakesly, who died in a plane crash in 1947. On August 26, 1950, in Sedalia, she married Charles A. Hopkins, who survives of the home.
Nadine was raised and educated in Florence. She graduated from Stover High School in 1939. She and Charles first made their home in Otterville and later moved to Sedalia. She worked at Lamy’s for four years and then became a full time homemaker. She enjoyed camping, fishing, quilting and listening to country music. She loved her family, and her grandchildren were a special joy to her. She always looked forward to taking rides with her husband to the Florence area.
Also surviving are a son, David Hopkins, of Sedalia; 2 daughters, Pat Copas, of Cashion, OK, and LaDonna Hermanson, of Sedalia; 2 brothers, Cecil Oehrke and Bob Oehrke, both of Sedalia; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Oehrke, and a granddaughter, Michele Ann Copas.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Zindle officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons Scott Hopkins, Mike Copas, Larry Copas, Gary Copas, David Hermanson and Brian Hermanson. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009 where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Immanuel United Church of Christ in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
