Life Legacy

Mary Lou Nevils Keck, age 85, of Sedalia, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was born in rural Green Ridge, on July 17, 1923, a daughter of Ross H. and Maudie Lee Muncy Nevils. On April 10, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church, she was married to James Charles Keck who survives of the home.

Mrs. Keck was a 1942 graduate of Green Ridge High School. She worked at Sedalia Bank & Trust for many years, and then worked at Kmart from where she retired after ten years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed many years of quilting with the ladies of the church once a week, and also helped with the funeral dinners for a number of years.

When her children were young she was a leader in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Brownies. She was a room mother for both children all through their grade school years. She loved to cook for her family and was an avid reader. She kept a daily journal for over 50 years. She made her children and grandchildren several quilts. She was a former member of the State Fair Doll Club and loved collecting porcelain dolls. She loved traveling; she and her husband took several nice trips with their daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and John Schmidt. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to her two grandchildren, Jonathon and Megan. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. For over 25 years she and her husband were precinct poll workers.

Also surviving are a son, Barry R. Keck, and his wife Jo, of Sweet Springs; a daughter, Rebecca L. Schmidt and her husband, John, of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren, Jonathon J. Schmidt, of Springfield, IL, and Megan Ann Keck, of Cole Camp; one sister, Ruby Sampson, of Windsor; one brother, Roy Glen Nevils, of Bates City, MO; and sixteen nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, George, Noel, and Edward Nevils, and a sister, Lourissia Lyle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Father Bill Miller and Rev. Father Jim Betzen officiating. Pallbearers will be Ed Nevils, Jim Nevils, Jim Lyle, Robert Garner, Dick Loftus, Bill Gardner and Tim Carr.
