Life Legacy


John Jay Hangley, age 75, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Sedalia, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at his home.

He was born April 8, 1934 in Omaha, NE, a son of Jay H. and Mary Catherine Laws Hangley. On May 18, 1979, in Miami, OK, he was married to Christy Goodwin, who survives of the home.

Mr. Hangley was raised and educated in Cameron, MO and was a 1952 graduate of Cameron High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Dickie Doo BBQ in Sedalia and later owned and operated J Bar J BBQ in Osage Beach. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and was especially fond of roses.

Also surviving are a son, John C. Hangley (Tracy), of University City, MO; a step-daughter, Cheryl Colt (Dan), of Tremble, MO; a brother, James Lowell Hangley (Tracy), of Los Angeles, CA; 2 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Father Linus Evers officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2591. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Red Cross Blood Bank, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
