Life Legacy
Irene Oakes 87, of Sedalia, MO., died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born July 22, 1920, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of Alfred and Gertrude Novack Eister . On November 15, 1942, she was married to Max Oakes, who preceded her in death May, 1995.
She attended Parkview Christian Church. She loved to quilt and crochet. She enjoyed all crafts and bowling.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Swopes of Sedalia and Maxine Garrett of Camdenton, MO, one son Dale E. Oakes of Sedalia , and one sister Alyce Sullivan, Iowa City, Iowa., and four grandchildren, Tim Garrett, Bruce Oakes, Chad McNeal, and Scott Hughes, and six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Wyjack, one brother Harry Eister, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Gay and Ciha Funeral Home in Oxford Iowa. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gay and Ciha Funeral Home in Oxford, Iowa. Local arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
