Life Legacy
Emily Violet Newman, 80, of Sedalia, died Friday, December 2, 2005, at Ridge Crest Nursing Center in Warrensburg.
She was born May 14, 1925, in Coulee, ND, the daughter of Jens Julius and Edna Bertine Erickson Domsten. On March 1, 1947, in Sidney, MT, she was married to Kenneth Leroy Newman who preceded her in death on October 14, 2004.
Mrs. Newman lived in Minot, ND most of her life. She and her husband moved to Sedalia in 1996 to be near their daughter. She worked various jobs throughout her life. She was the last Otis elevator attendant in Minot, ND. She retired as supervisor at the Minot YWCA in 1996 and volunteered at Open Door. She was a child of God with a gentle soul. She enjoyed helping others and most recently attended Sedalia Harmony Baptist Church. She loved birds, decorating and playing cards. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 25 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Cindy Harmon and her husband James, of Sedalia; two sons, Ronald Newman and his wife Ruth, of Dickinson, ND, and Robert Newman and his wife Elaine, of Katy, TX; a brother, Marvin Domsten and his wife Sylvia, of Burlington, ND; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Newman and his wife Janice, of Phoenix, AZ and Harold Rhodes, of Glendale, AZ; a sister-in-law, Shirley Pfau and her husband Larry, of Helena, MT; seven grandchildren, Casey Newman, Anisa Harnden and her husband Don, Brandon Newman, Christina Newman, Barret Newman, Jerrod Newman and Terry Newman and his wife Lorisa; two great-grandchildren, Mason Newman, and Andrew Harnden, and another due in June; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Rhodes.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2005 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Elvis Durrill officiating. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Casey Newman, Brandon Newman, Christina Newman, Barret Newman, Jerrod Newman and Terry Newman. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Crossroads Hospice, or Bothwell Regional Health Center Hospice, in care of the funeral chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
